Devonport 2 West Tug Berth Pontoon wins the 2025 CCF Tasmania Earth Award

A $2.5 million design and construct project for TasPorts, replacing a small craft berth that had served the Port of Devonport for nearly 30 years.

The new 65 m tug berth and 30 m small craft pontoon give tugs, pilot boats and marine crews safe, all-tide berthing. The scope included demolition of the existing berth, a 55 m rock revetment using 1,400 tonnes of rock, and all steel components fabricated in-house at Latrobe.

Varying ground including basalt was addressed by fabricating a custom down-the-hole hammer to achieve pile accuracy and stability, with 35 m ground anchor tiebacks and a kick-up gangway designed for 3.5 m tides.

The project won the 2025 Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania Earth Award (Excellence in Civil Construction, $2M to $5M). Read the project page.
