Devonport 2 West Tug Berth Pontoon
A $2.5 million design and construct project for TasPorts, delivering safe, all-tide berthing for tugs, pilot boats and marine crews.
The scope included demolition of the existing berth, a 55 m rock revetment using 1,400 tonnes of rock, a new 65 m tug berth pontoon and a 30 m small craft pontoon, with all steel components fabricated in-house at Latrobe.
Varying ground including basalt was addressed by fabricating a custom down-the-hole hammer to achieve pile accuracy and stability, with 35 m ground anchor tiebacks and a kick-up gangway designed for 3.5 m tides.
The project won the 2025 Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania Earth Award (Excellence in Civil Construction, $2M to $5M category).
Key figures: $2.5M contract value, 65 m tug berth, 30 m small craft berth, 2025 CCF Earth Award.
