Burnie Port P6 Portainer Crane Controlled Collapse

Controlled collapse of a decommissioned 680-tonne, 90 m high post-Panamax container crane at the Port of Burnie, stabilised by strand cable and cut remotely.

Burnie Port P6 Portainer Crane Controlled Collapse

Winner of the 2020 Engineers Australia Australian Engineering Excellence Award (Tasmania), with TasPorts.

The decommissioned P6 portainer crane stood 90 m high and weighed 680 tonnes. BridgePro engineered a controlled collapse in which the structure was stabilised by strand cable and cut by remote hydraulic cutting, so that no personnel were on or near the crane at the moment of collapse.

The project demonstrates BridgePro’s specialist demolition capability: engineering-led methodology, heavy lifting and highly specialised operations on live port infrastructure.

Key figures: 680-tonne crane, 90 m height, remote hydraulic cutting, completed 2019.
