Bridge construction

As our name suggests, bridges are our bread and butter.

We have constructed over 200 road bridges with some exceeding 100 metres in length and over 10 metres in height. This includes the construction of the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the southern hemisphere, as well as our current work on Australia's largest road bridge over water – the new Bridgewater bridge.

Successful project delivery of bridge construction and maintenance utilises our full suite of skills in-house, from design, prefabrication, temporary works, foundation piling, insitu concrete, heavy lifting, and roadworks.

Our full suite of skills and expertise means that we can deliver a successful bridge project, no matter what the requirements – from implementing a range of design techniques to the actual construction process.

Road bridge construction

Our principal construction material is prestressed concrete, but we can also construct road bridges using steel girders or concrete decks.

Since our first project in 2011, BridgePro Engineering has constructed over 200 road bridges, ranging from pedestrian, highway, rural and mine site bridges. As well as construction, our services include bridge maintenance and strengthening projects, such as the Hoggs bridge in Railton, which involved the construction of a new bridge span due to the damage suffered from the 2016 floods.

Other key capabilities and experience include:

  • Design of concrete and steel bridges
  • Bridge construction to the AS5100 and the Victoria Road Standard Specification with full QA systems
  • Inhouse precast capability to support the program if required
  • Inhouse fabrication of formwork, moulds, temporary works, steel barriers and ancillary components
  • A wide range of temporary works including box girder match casting hydraulic trolleys, piling guides, temporary bridges, erection gantries, gangways, barges and pontoons
  • Piled foundations, including driven or bored piles

Warrawee Suspension Bridge

The Latrobe Council issued a Request for Tender for the design and construction of a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Mersey River. The goal was to connect the Warrawee Conservation Area in Latrobe to the trails leading to Kentish and Railton, creating a vital link in the mountain bike trail network and boosting tourism in the region.

The project involved the construction of a new 72m long, three-span prestressed girder bridge over 10m high.

Devil’s Gate refurbishment

In 2016, divers and sonar scanning identified some significant erosion of the concrete lined plunge pool below the spillway of Devils Gate Dam which is submerged all year round. The repair is one of the most critical event to be done as the Devils Gate Power Station is due to a major refurbishment in 2018.

Our most significant project to date has been working on the New Bridgewater bridge – Tasmania’s largest ever transport infrastructure project. The new four lane bridge will be the longest road bridge over water in Australia.

After almost six years since the 2016 floods, the permit to work within the habitat of the Central North Burrowing Crayfish has been officially confirmed, marking the long-awaited commencement of the Latrobe Flood Mitigation Project - with construction now almost finalised (August 2023).
